Emergency aid after the major earthquake and reconstruction of a school in Aleppo

In cooperation with the provincial rescue service White Cross, World Doctors have launched a joint aid campaign for earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria. In addition to the distribution of valuable survival kits for the population, an agreement was signed for the reconstruction of a school in the Aleppo region.

Contact was established in the Aleppo region via the Italian aid organization WeWorld. Emergency kits were immediately distributed to 430 families. These mainly consisted of everyday necessities such as water and blankets. But also hygiene articles and medical supplies, as the earthquake had destroyed the water pipes and a cholera epidemic was imminent. 2,580 people were reached with this aid.

At the same time, an agreement was signed on the joint reconstruction of a school. Around a third of all schools in the Aleppo region were destroyed by the earthquake. Many of the surviving school buildings also had to be converted into emergency shelters. By financing a school, we can create a new educational facility for around 800 children and thus some normality. The two associations also cover the costs of school desks, writing materials and necessary teaching materials.
