From the world's major problems to the places where hope grows

Humanitarian aid with heart that arrives and has a lasting impact – from South Tyrol to the world. This summarizes the long-standing work of the association.

“Today, 25 years after our founding, we can only say one word: Thank you!” says President Toni Pizzecco. It all began with Aldous Huxley’s guiding motto: The only true progress for humanity is progress in brotherly love. And this still holds true today, perhaps more than ever! “Our vision was to create a world where medical care is accessible to people in their homeland – regardless of their origin or religion.”

What started as medical emergency aid developed into a comprehensive commitment: the construction of health stations, hospitals and schools, training programs for medical personnel, drinking water and social projects are now as much in focus as long-term collaboration with local partners.

Since its founding on October 13, 2000, the association has been active in 19 countries, with more than 80 projects in the areas of basic medical care, education, access to water, and social development. Its work is guided by the principle of help for self-help.

The record of the past years speaks for itself:

• 10,000 children receive education thanks to numerous school projects,
• 125 wells provide clean water to 60,000 people,
• over 4 million people have access to basic medical care.

The association was founded by Toni Pizzecco, Tanja Nienstedt, Franco de Giorgi, Erich Näckler and Gabi Janssen and counts now 178 members – doctors, nurses, technicians, and other volunteers. About 20 members per year regularly undertake voluntary assignments in development areas.

Project funding comes from donations, foundations, public contributions, the 5x1000 of the tax declaration, membership fees, and various charity events.

“Through the dedication of our committed members and volunteers, the personal closeness to our project partners, and transparent communication with our donors, we have succeeded in building trust and credibility,” says Gabi Janssen Pizzecco, the association’s managing director.

On its anniversary, the association not only looks back but also moves forward with new energy: “Our goal is to inspire and involve younger generations. At the same time, we stay true to our values.”

Help comes from many hands. Therefore, the board, consisting of Toni Pizzecco, Tanja Nienstedt, Manfred and Florian Brandstätter, Meinhard Kritzinger, Monika Niederkofler and Günther Ziernhöld, thanks the many donors, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Autonomous Region of Trentino/South Tyrol, the Municipality of Bozen, and all who have supported the organization over 25 years.
